Sri Maha Bodhi is a sacred acacia tree located in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. It is a southern sapling of the historic Bodhi tree that the Buddha left behind in attaining Enlightenment. This was planted in 288 BC. It is the oldest known tree in the world to have been planted by human hands and to have survived.

This Sri Maha Bodhi is a southern branch of the Maha Bodhi in Buddhagaya, India, which was released when the Buddha attained Enlightenment. BC In the 3rd century, this tree was brought to the port now known as Sangamitta Ferry at Madagal in Yapa Patune, Lakdiva by Miss Sangamitta, the daughter of Emperor Ashoka. She was a pioneer in establishing the Sri Lanka Bhikkhuni Sasana. 249 BC King Devanampiyatissa planted this Jaya Siri Maha Bodhi in the Maha Mevna Uyana in Anuradhapura.
